Disney's Star Wars has been owning December for the last couple of years. They were in December originally then moved forward to May, but after a change of director moved back to their original December date.
You're assuming too much about WW2. DCEU haven't done any sequels yet.

Because promotional dollars, merchandise, and box office are part of the bigger whole. Studios don't even get most of their profit from box office alone. Its through merchandise.so if you really want to gauge a films success, you have to look at the bigger picture.
