Vibranium can absorb any form of energy basically isolating the Person. Thats why Thor coudnt damage Captain America. Cause they shield abosrbed and isolated Cap from the electricity of this.
In other words, the shield protects the User from any form of energy.
Adamantium is stronger, but it conducts electricity and energy. Bad for shields.
