Mass Shootings in America Thread

Also, I think we should pass national legislation that makes it illegal to post the names and faces of mass shooters. I attended a lecture from the FBI that talked about the "ripple effect" of copy-cats. It wasn't just murders, it was also suicides and hacking events. Which is crazy.

What about the 1st amendment?

Your first amendment right is not protected if what you're doing causes harm or death of others.

We have years of documented evidence that broadcasting the names and faces of murders causes copy-cat scenarios.

To hell with your first amendment right to publish the name and face of a mass murderer.

Killing yourself? Okay, that's fine. But killing others? Homicide? No. That's not a protected right. The sooner humans realize that we are not cold, calculated, logical, sensible beings, the easier it will be to make changes that improves everyone's lives. There should never be a carte blanche right to free speech.

You're not losing any special right by not being able to plaster the name and face of a mass murderer on your news station, website, social media page, or blog. Trust me.

I think people should not do it, but I don't think they should be punished if they do.

They should definitely be punished for it and punished severely...in their pocket book. You are probably worried about depriving the freedom of people for violating such a law. No. Just their pocketbook. 🙂

It should be in proportion to their involvement, as well. If you are a victim or you had a family member/friend, bla bla bla. Perhaps a warning or a removal of the perpetrator's information.

If you are posting it on social media and are unrelated, a fine of $500 is a great start.

A national media company? $50,000,000.

And so forth.

Watch as mass murder events sharply drop in the US.

I prefer to run things like a Technocracy. Where legitimate science dictates policy, not feelings and traditions.

If you want the government to do this then why not also have them regulate social media so that people can only be banned for posting illegal content?

That's already done.

You didn't know?

Also when you use the word "technocracy" I just think of the World of Darkness.

I think that was just for fun? That was not reality or what a Technocracy is in real life.

How dare you say such a thing.

Be my guest: post something illegal on social media. Publicly.

Let me know if you get investigated, prosecuted, and/or convicted of a crime.

I'll be your guest and I demand a continental breakfast.

Also I said they should make it so you can *only* be banned for posting illegal stuff. That was not me saying you do not get banned for posting illegal stuff.

I want fines for it.

And I want less incarceration.

I'm all for it(the fines). 150 billion dollar fine for any social media company that bans a person for something that isn't illegal.

The 2nd strike the fine is tripled.

But no fines for homophobic bakers who deny equal service to certain people because of said bias and bigotry...

If a few companies control all cake baking and behave as bigoted as twitter and facebook? We can discuss it 🙂

No no, you've got that wrong.

A $150 million fine for posting the face and name of a mass murderer if they are a media company.

A $500 fine for individuals doing the same on social media.

But banning people or censoring people who use your platform, for whatever reason at all? No fine. No punishment. Nothing. Never.

I'll tell you why:

One has direct evidence of causing harm to others and death.

One just hurts your feelings.

I really don't care about someone's hurt feelings. Go join a different private club where your comments or postings are welcome. 🙂

Rob is being a disingenuous little shit and he knows it. That baker offered to sell them anything in his store. He just didn't wanna be forced to use his artistic talent to make a special cake for an occasion that goes against his religious beliefs.

He was not "homophobic" either. It is just contrary to his Christian beliefs; it's not the same thing. I seroiously doubt he actually hates gays or is "phobic" of them.

A private company curtailing freedom of speech, when individuals are using that "right" to spread hate seems wholly justified. These people use platforms as a way to reach out to the vulnerable who are looking for someone to blame and validation there shit life is someone else's fault, be it gays, blacks, Muslims, people having sex, etc. if it prevents the borderline mentally ill being taken advantage of, excellent!
