Mass Shootings in America Thread

“Thoughts and prayers”, is what they offer and the cycle starts anew.

It's pretty simple. America's gun problem is like being an alcoholic. Admit you have a problem and then move forward from there.

But this is just getting ridiculously out of hand. Don't even pretend to be the best nation on Earth when it's dangerous AF to live there and you're not even at War !

The "we are the best nation on earth" crowd is awfully annoying, I'll tell you that.

Buffalo gunman pleads guilty in racist supermarket massacre, guaranteeing life in prison

The white gunman who massacred 10 Black shoppers and workers at a Buffalo supermarket pleaded guilty Monday to murder and hate-motivated terrorism charges, guaranteeing that he will spend the rest of his life in prison.

Payton Gendron, 19, entered the plea Monday in a courthouse roughly two miles from the grocery store where he used a semiautomatic rifle and body armor to carry out a racist assault he hoped would help preserve white power in the U.S.

He pleaded guilty to all the charges in the grand jury indictment, including murder, murder as a hate crime and hate-motivated domestic terrorism, which carries an automatic sentence of life without parole. Gendron also pleaded guilty to wounding three people who survived the May attack. -snip

Rot in prison, Rightist garbage (I know, redundant).

UK Teen Extradited for Inspiring Buffalo Shooting

A teenager from Derbyshire faces extradition to the United States after being found guilty of publishing far-right terrorist material that inspired a mass shooting in Buffalo, New York.

Daniel Harris, 19, from Glossop, produced videos that called for armed insurrection, and glorified the crimes of white supremacist mass murderers. His videos were viewed by Payton Gendron, who killed ten people in Buffalo last May. All the victims were black.

An image from one of his uploads was featured on the cover of the manifesto created by the 19-year-old Buffalo shooter, who had also commented on one of Harris' clips before the attack to say, "You are not alone my friend 🙂"

FBI Probes Hate Websites Linked to Club Q Shooter

So another Rightist terrorist attack

The FBI is investigating two websites in connection with last month's shooting at an LGBTQ nightclub in Colorado that left five dead and 17 others injured. One website created by Aldrich is a "free speech" forum where people anonymously post racist and antisemitic memes, language, and videos.

A video on the homepage titled "Wrong Targets" advocates for killing civilians as part of a larger effort to "assassinate the elites at the top" and "cleanse" society. A link on the homepage that reads "Visit Our Brother Site!" directs to a webpage with links to four short videos, each uploaded in two different formats, that appear to have been posted by Aldrich in the hours leading up to the shooting.

In a twist that will surprise absolutely no one, Aldrich operated two hate websites that valorized mass shooters, including the recent one in Buffalo, New York.

This Rightist degenerate is likely going to prison for the rest of his miserable life. Excellent.

FBI Got Tip About Shooter Before His 2021 Arrest

Aldrich was arrested in 2021 after his mother reported to police he was threatening to harm her with a homemade bomb and multiple weapons, according to the El Paso County Sheriff's Office.

He was arrested after a lengthy standoff in which 10 neighborhood homes had to be evacuated, and he was charged with six felonies.

However, records show that he was not prosecuted, and the El Paso County district attorney would not comment on why his case was dropped.

Leslie Bowman confirmed that the 2021 standoff with Anderson occurred at her home, because she was renting a spare room to his mother, Laura Voepel.

"His mom had called me and said, 'Don't come home right now, there are some people looking for Andy.' After that initial day, police never reached out to me for additional information. Why is he not in jail, after that happening? For him to be out there, and have access to weapons after that incident, I don't understand it.”

Aldrich's grandparents ran from their Colorado Springs home last year and called 9-1-1, saying Aldrich was building a bomb in the basement and had threatened to kill them.

Details of the case remain sealed, but an arrest affidavit detailed that Aldrich was upset his grandparents were moving to Florida, because it would interfere with his plans to conduct a mass shooting and bombing (Aldrich lives with his grandparents).

As part of the FBI's probe, the agency coordinated with the El Paso County Sheriff's Office, which had responded to the June 18, 2021 call from Aldrich's grandparents, and arrested Aldrich on felony menacing and kidnapping charges.

"With state charges pending, the FBI closed its assessment on July 15, 2021," the FBI said.

Those charges were later dropped for unknown reasons, and El Paso authorities have refused to say why.

So literally the day before he was arrested for holding his mother hostage in the room she rented with a home made bomb, he was arrested for threatening to kill his grandparents because notified him they were moving and that would prevent him from carrying out his mass shooting.

So the El Paso Sherrif's Office knew for nearly a year-and-a-half that he intended to conduct a mass shooting, and they did nothing.

The Colorado Springs gay nightclub shooter had charges dropped in a 2021 bomb threat case after family members who were terrorized in the incident refused to cooperate, according to the district attorney and court documents unsealed Thursday.

The charges were dropped despite authorities finding a tub full of bomb-making chemicals and later receiving warnings from other relatives that suspect Anderson Lee Aldrich was sure to hurt or murder his grandparents if freed, according to the unsealed documents.

The suspect's mother and the grandparents derailed that earlier case by evading prosecutors' efforts to serve them with a subpoena, leading to a dismissal of the charges after defense attorneys said speedy trial rules were at risk, El Paso County District Attorney Michael Allen said.

This is the same conservative district attorney who refused to enforce the state red flag law, and seize his firearms after his arrest. "We have bomb making materials, terrorist threats, and numerous witnesses, including records from law enforcement, but his family will not testify against him, my hands are tied!" Disengenuous *******.

Felon MAGATard GOP Candidate Arrested in String of Shootings at Homes of Democrats

A Republican House of Representatives candidate, who claimed election fraud after his defeat, was arrested by an Albuquerque SWAT team Monday in connection with a string of recent shootings at the homes of Democratic elected leaders, city police said.

Solomon Peña, who lost his 2022 run for state House District 14, is accused of paying and conspiring with four men to shoot at the homes of two state legislators and two county commissioners, Albuquerque Police said.

"It is believed he is the mastermind" behind the shootings, Albuquerque Police Chief Harold Medina said during a news conference.

Peña served nearly seven years in prison after being convicted in 2008 of stealing a large amount of goods in a "smash and grab scheme." Once he got out he knew what he wanted to do: "I got my B.A. in political science at UNM, and when the state of the nation declined, that's what got me to run. Inflation's at 9%," Peña said.

In the latest shooting, police found evidence "Peña himself went on this shooting and actually pulled the trigger on at least one of the firearms that was used,” Albuquerque Police Commander Kyle Hartsock said.

However, an AR-15 he tried to use malfunctioned, the police statement said, adding more than a dozen rounds were fired by another shooter from a separate gun.

"Solomon Peña, who unsuccessfully ran for a state House seat in New Mexico as a Republican last November, was arrested Monday in Albuquerque for allegedly paying four men to shoot at the homes of four elected officials, police said. They say Peña paid $500 — and that he took part in one shooting himself.

The criminal complaint against Peña includes chilling details. In one case, bullets tore through the walls of a 10-year-old girl's bedroom as she slept. Just before that attack, police allege, Peña had urged the gunmen to aim lower when they shot at politicians' houses." -NPR

Reports are also saying he was at the January 6th insurrection and attempted coup. "He Cheered Trump on Jan. 6. Now He’s Accused of Targeting Political Rivals." -NYT

Gun Show Promotes AR-15s for Children

On Friday, January 6th, a first-grade class at Richneck Elementary School in Newport News was about to go to art class when a student pulled a handgun from his backpack and pointed it at his teacher, 25-year-old Abigail Zwerner.

According to Brittaney Gregory, whose son was in the class, "She was going to confiscate it, and that's when he shot." The teacher told the children to run, and they raced to another teacher's classroom, where they stayed in lockdown.

After the shooting, the 6-year-old was placed in police custody. He used a 9 millimeter Taurus firearm, which was legally purchased by the his mother. The teacher suffered life-threatening injuries, but has since improved and is now in stable condition.

The following Saturday, police in Beech Grove, Indiana responded to reports of a diaper-clad child roaming the halls with a firearm at a local apartment complex.

When the officers arrived, they spoke to neighbors who had reported seeing the toddler with the gun, which he pointed at them, prompting them to retreat inside and call the police.

The police then arrested the boy's father, who lied about having a gun in the home.

This comes after Indiana lawmakers passed permitless carry, which allows people to have purchase and carry firearms without a background check or safety training.

Three days later, a gun trade show in Las Vegas promoted a JR-15 .22-caliber long rifle meant for kids:

"The JR-15 is the first in a line of shooting platforms that will assist families in safely passing on the proud American tradition of responsible gun ownership to the next generation of recreational shooting and hunting enthusiasts," the description on the trade show's website reads.

At SHOT, the National Shooting Sports Foundation's annual trade show, gun manufacturers are promoting guns that are specifically marketed toward children, including the JR-15 and a building blocks sniper toy.

"Making an AR-15 for kids is a disgusting new low,” said Sari Kaufman, a volunteer with Students Demand Action, which is part of Everytown for Gun Safety. "Instead of seeing young people as an opportunity to boost sales and arm more people with weapons designed for mass violence, the gun industry should be working to make their products safer."

Before thousands of gun enthusiasts made their way into the Venetian Expo and Caesars Forum on Tuesday, they were met with billboards with Students Demand Action's message: "Guns are the #1 killer of kids and teens in America."

The American Public Health Association calls gun violence a public health crisis and it is a leading cause of premature death in the country, responsible for more than 38,000 deaths annually.

Less than three weeks into the new year and at least 1,954 people have died from gun violence so far, according to data from the Gun Violence Archive.

Gun violence is also now the leading cause of death for American children. At least 117 children and teachers have died going to school, attending class, or walking home since the Sandy Hook shooting in 2012.

For Kaufman, a 20-year-old sophomore at Yale, it is not something she has to imagine. She was a sophomore at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland when a shooter opened fire and killed 17 people and injured 17 more.

"I think about it every day," she said. "Going through a tragedy and trauma like that at 15 years old, right when you're developing into an adult—it impacts you every day in various ways. There's constant reminders, because gun violence goes unchecked and it continues to happen."

Kaufman called each new mass shooting a "sad cycle," where virtually nothing changes and gun manufacturers continue to profit.

"It's upsetting that at 20 years old, I've been through a mass shooting, and now I'm having to call out lawmakers and an industry, because adults aren't doing their jobs," she said.
