What's also stupid to me is people on the Right trying to just focus on mental illness (or minorities or even unlocked side doors if they get the opportunity) and claim guns aren't the problem.

Yet mental illness isn't exclusive to the US. It's a something that's present within the human population of every country. And yet the US is unique with regards to the amount of mass shootings and such that take place. So, what's the difference then? The amount and ease of access people have to firearms in the United States, as well as the culture among many there (particularly on the Right) that glorifies gun use.

Now, will stronger regulation and restrictions immediately stop all gun violence? No. But it will immediately stop some and over time even more, as the amount of guns in circulation, both legal and illegal, will decrease.

But the gun nuts don't want to hear it.

Kind of hilarious how they jumped all over the last shooting because shooter was Trans.

Lol like I agree on binary genders, but come on. Dont take us for fools. The culprit is clearly GUNS.

I'd take the "mental illness is to blame" angle seriously from republicans if not for the fact that they do less about tackling mental health issues than they do about gun control.

The only way to stop a bad mentally ill person with a gun is a good mentally ill person with a gun.

That's why Republicans vote "no" on bills with packages to help address mental illness: House Republicans Vote Against Bill to Address Mental Health in Schools

Tennessee governor signs order on gun background checks -BBC

Tennessee's Republican governor has signed an executive order to strengthen background checks for purchase of guns and has urged lawmakers to pass legislation tightening gun laws.

Governor Bill Lee's order comes in the wake of the Nashville school shooting that left six people, including three children, dead last month.

"This is our moment to lead," he said.

The state has some of the most lax gun laws in the US.

The shooting at a private Christian school reignited nationwide protests for gun control, including from two Democratic black state lawmakers who were expelled last week for joining the protests at Tennessee's House of Representatives. -snip

The executive order signed by Mr Lee on Tuesday attempts to strengthen background checks by mandating that new criminal activity be reported to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation within 72 hours. It also requires the bureau to examine the current process for purchasing guns in the state.

Mr Lee also urged Tennessee lawmakers to pass legislation known as red flag laws, which allow authorities to temporarily seize firearms from people who are found to be a threat to themselves or others.

The Republican governor said more action was needed to protect the people of Tennessee. -snip

Finally, after heaps of innocent dead people, including children, one Rightist governor is finally heading in the right direction. It's only a baby step towards progress, but still a step.

The NRA endorsed Bill Lee in 2018, they're not happy with him now.

he'll be voted out of office as a reward. republicans are garbage

Oh yeah, that's so close to being a guarantee, that is might as well be.

He is stuck between a rock and a hard place, because he told constituents that he was going to take no action on guns, and that dead children were the price to pay for the Second Amendment. So this is a Hail, Mary designed to not get voted out of office by the people he pissed off with those remarks.

Had to look that up, from May 2021:

"Lee's signature makes Tennessee a Second Amendment sanctuary - Senate Bill 1335 prevents any “law, treaty, executive order, rule, or regulation of the United States government” that violates the Tennessee Constitution or the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution from being enforced in the state." -Snip

Did he have a change of heart now only because a private (ie $$$) Christian school was shot up? Oh Rightist...

Since the last post in this thread on April 12th (a week ago) there has been 14 more mass shootings in the US with another 15 people dead and 84 people injured and no one has posted about them because it's just business as usual for the best country in the world. Lulz.

Plus all the other not mass shootings, like the racist who shot a 16yo Black kid in the head and then the body just because the kid rang his door dell, thinking it was a different house. Kid's alive but will never be the same.

Then the degenerate who shot a teenage White girl in her car, because the driver accidentally went up the wrong driveway and he "felt threatened". She's dead, this deplorable killed a White girl in America, he is f**ked.

Why do these people do these things...

4 cheerleaders get in you car and your 1st instinct is to murder them.

Bonkers.

That's like my 3rd instinct after the kidnappings and rapes.

GASTON CO., N.C. -- A North Carolina man allegedly shot a 6-year-old girl, her parents and an additional neighbor after a basketball rolled into his yard.

Local and federal law are still searching for the suspect, who was also charged with assaulting his girlfriend with a sledgehammer in December. [...]

Nah, just throw the deplorable in prison. Capital Punishment is flawed, making exceptions for deplorables like this is not the way.

really starting to disagree on that. also i wasn't making exceptions for anyone

My error, shouldn't have said "exceptions", more of changing your mind on capital punishment because of degenerate deplprables like this, still not a good idea considering how flawed our justice system is.
