There's statistics you know, even broken down by what types of gun crimes.

But the states with the loosest gun laws tend to have the higher rates of violent gun crimes per capita.

iirc, also statistically speaking, if you keep a gun(s) in your home, you have a much higher chance of being a victim of a gun crime than you are of using said gun to stop a crime.

Same here with knife crime in the UK; Somebody pulls a knife out perhaps only with the intention of intimidation but then the knife is kicked out of their hand and picked up by the person they wielded it against, who doesn't know what their intention was, fight or flight kicks in and the person who produced the knife gets stabbed.

A friends father said to us once, 'if you carry a knife, you'll end up using it.' Always stuck with me that one.

I know someone who carries a knife and although he hasn't used it to my knowledge, he is a felon who's been in prison for petty theft and fighting.

Truth is, he's obviously got enemies, takes drugs and isn't bright at all. I saw him walking down the main road swaying his arms around with a bottle of cheap cider in one hand.

I would be scared if someone like him had access to a loaded firearm.

No offense, but this logic means you are at the mercy of whomever chooses to threaten you with a weapon.

And it's inconsistent, it presumes you aren't to be trusted with a weapon, yet a mugger is? Why make that assumption? What happens if the knife man takes your wallet and stabs you anyways?

I will never understand a policy that effectively places all power in the hands of an anti-social aggressor, while burdening the masses to not resist so they don't get hurt and hope their aggressor isn't a complete lunatic. That is a society that has gjven up on ever controlling those who rob and steal and murder, and instead focuses on everyone else to avoid poking the Hornets nests, even though hornets sting people all the time whether poked or not.

A U.S. Army reservist suspected of killing at least 18 people in Maine had been taken by police for an evaluation after military officials became concerned that he was acting erratically in mid-July, a U.S. official told The Associated Press.

The official said commanders in the Army Reserve’s 3rd Battalion, 304th Infantry Regiment became concerned in mid-July that Robert Card was acting erratically while the unit was training at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point in New York.

In March, he liked a tweet by Trump Jr. that read, "Given the incredible rise of trans/non-binary mass shooters in the last few years—by far the largest group committing as a percentage of population—maybe, rather than talking about guns, we should be talking about lunatics pushing their gender-affirming bullshit on our kids."
