So now its a woman living by herself in the woods with children/her grandma? This is becoming a really specific and elaborate scenario you're painting to try to find a situation where a gun is useful. Anyone in such a vulnerable position would no doubt have some sort of security precautions in place, but I guess if there isn't the best she could do would be barracading a door. So I suppose in this specifc situation she'd probably be screwed, but shed be screwed if the guy had a gun anyway so its not as if this justifies anything.
I don't know where you live but many people in the USA hunt, they aren't huddled around their fire in their cabins out in the woods fearing a break in.
They have guns because they use them to gather food, not play bang bang rambo............ guns aren't just about home defense.

I'd be happy if the only ones with guns were those who hunted and they were closely regulated to only be used in that role.

I mean I know like weasels CBS just deleted their tweet about guns and cold medicine(I'd be shocked if its still on FB), but so many networks said the 18 shootings this year stat. Each of these places actually have whined in the past over Trump exaggerating audience sizes. You'd think the fact they lied about school shootings would be important to correct. Because the more time passes, it's not a mistake anymore, it's a lie they refuse to correct.
