Hmmm if we're talking classic I personally think SA/PCOIE. if thats the vase than I rank them based on a crossover. In said story Crona disspossess Alan of his body and takes over. Using Alan's body hendefeats Hal and then takes down the Guardians. Alan in spirit form then aids Hal's will to defeat Crona.
Personally I see this as having them more as equals or pretty damn close. Obviously Crona has greater will Alan.
If we go off post COIE then we have Alans story from GLC where Abin Sur borrowed a 1942 Alan scot's ring to fight an enemy who jad taken his and those of a few other GLs. He made some reference that he was impressed with the power.
Regarding versatility I dont think Alan's ring lacks it bit he did in classic tales use it less. In the GA Alan used his ring to alter (matter manip) gold into paper, to shrink himself, and quite a few versatile things he juat wasnt shown doing them as often
I know this is "classic versions", but does Hal's new Krona ring need charging?
Biggest change up from classic to modern day gl's, is the rings used to give 100% output for 24 hours, full stop. That means they could never be drained (Instead, they were depowered using time warps and such..)
Modern rings operate off a charge like a battery, and can (and have) ran out faster depending on use. This is a HUGE disadvantage against someone like Alan Scott, who was retconned as mainlining all the wild magic in the universe, and can never run out of juice.
So, just wondering if the "willpower ring" basically mainlines "will", and doesn't need charging like conventional rings..

Stripped him of the white power ring, made him screw up a Sinestro/GL union by making Sinestro's daughter go crazy because he just learned they had a kid together, and he went back in time to kill the alliance, then died. And Kyle never told her within the single day he learned about it, and she blamed him and turned her evil because of COURSE the first thing you do when you learn you made a time traveling Hitler with a girl you only just asked on a date is to tell her you lost your future child..
That and general making him look bad compared to Hal.
