Freedon Nadd - Sith Lord or Dark Jedi?

Now, I know there are 'sources' that state he is a Sith Lord. But it is more likely due to the fact that he was apprenticed to Naga Sadow and the Sith-ic bond he had with Lord Sadow. But then again, maybe I am wrong: and it is a retcon?

I don't know what to say. Nadd never struck me as a Sith Lord. Imo, Freedon Nadd is a Dark Jedi, Jedi that have fallen to the dark side and are independent but with relatively small ambitions (I.E. conquering Onderon and Dxun)

Every time Nadd is mentioned in KotOR, he's referred to as a Dark Jedi and rightfully so, because he doesn't have the goals of a Sith Lord (his goals were much smaller) and he had no connection to them (except Sadow's informal training). He's a Dark Jedi.

People call Sith as Dark Jedi all the time. You don't even need to be a Jedi first to be a Dark Jedi.

What you want to say is that the Dark Jedi moniker is applied to two categories:
Rogue Jedi
Independent dark side practitioner

A Sith cannot be identified with a Dark Jedi because they already belong to an order.

If Nadd is indeed a Dark Jedi then he is exempt from accolades and official quotes establishing the strenght of Sith Lords.

He may very well be above the likes of Vitiate or Scourge.

Feats of nadd?

His lightsaber mastery seemingly eclipses Vitiate's.

Also, his tomb on Onderon was a focal point of dark side energy. His dark side well of power was used from generation to generation, and it didn't begin to heb.
The tomb also suffused Iziz, then the planet, and eventually the entirety of the Onderon system with the power of Sith magic using Nadd's dark side nexus.
Even after the sarcophagus(with its residual dark side energies) was moved on Dxun, Visas noted that Nadd must have been really strong in life.

If you are a Jedi and turn dark and / or Sith then you are a Dark Jedi.

If you are a dark-side Force user then you are a Dark Jedi.

Yes. If you are a dark side user that has no relation with an order is called a Dark Jedi. And by the Dark Empire, I strongly believe that Palpatine didn't deem himself a Sith anymore. He was still willing to make use of general dark side Force knowledge, but his Dark Empire reign had him as the top dog with lesser adepts and apprentices to use them in his matters.

Yes, but Lee clearly emphasises on the Jedi status. He says that a Dark Jedi is anyone who was expelled from the other and those darksiders that do not belong to the Jedi Order. Nothing contradicts what I have said.
Yes, the Son is a Dark Jedi because he doesn't belong to the Jedi Order and doesn't belong to an established order either. He is just a Darksider.

The ones in Revan's empire were named Dark Jedi because they were allied to his empire but followed their own agendas. They weren't 100% loyal to the empire.

Freedon Nadd is a Dark Jedi, as is any dark sider. You can be a Dark Jedi and a Dark Lord of the Sith at once. In fact, to be a Lord of the Sith, you must be a Dark Jedi. So the question posed in the OP is moot.
