This isn't a gun vs alcohol thread. Please don't turn it into that.

Here is a tip for everyone: Do not read Robtard's posts. You just get stupider.

So "because everyone does it" is your argument? Pathetic. Why does everyone do it is a better question. Does your proposition to ban guns in the states apply to people in Wyoming where 62%+ of households own one; where "everyone does it"?

I wasn't aware I was in an argument, lol. I was saying why it isn't banned. You guys already tried it and it didn't work. And it wouldn't ever work because everyone drinks alcohol. People have been drinking alcohol for thousands of years and they will for thousands more. Alcohol is mankinds friend.

Would you abandon a friend?

I've never touched alcohol in my life and don't ever plan to. Staying in control is invaluable to me. (Fun fact Trump is a teetotaler too). I understand that people traditionally have consumed alcohol for the "warm, fuzzy" feelings it brings about, but can you really justify the damage it does? Just like guns, alcohol requires a level of self-discipline, control, and good judgement to be used without harming innocent parties. When people lose that self-discipline it becomes detrimental to the individual and those around them. Drinking culture had devolved to where binge-drinking, getting wasted, etc is the encouraged, acceptable norm. Hell yeah! Right?

And to lead off to another tangent just for sh1ts and giggles...

Alcohol is the #1 rape drug!!

and I know how strongly you feel about women being taken advantage of. Perhaps bans on alcohol will help alleviate that issue. What do you say? My guns for your devastating drug.

It kills 88,000 people a year.

Same reason we keep using cars.

Nearly 1.3 million people die in road crashes each year, on average 3,287 deaths a day. An additional 20-50 million are injured or disabled.

Someone somewhere decided the profit was worth the loss of life.

To begin with, booze culture and drinking culture are two very different things. To argue that it should be banned because some people take it to an excess they're not capable of handling and it becomes harmful to them is like saying we should ban french fries because of heart disease. I get what you're saying but it's just not going to happen in our lifetime, it's far too profitable, and not just for the alcohol industry either. How much money does an average local or city council make from fines due to alcohol related crimes or infringements? Hospitals would be less packed of a weekend but they'd make less money (not an issue here in Blighty while the NHS is still just about kicking) and if hospitals make less money then they'll charge more for their regular services. Drinking culture keeps this country going TBH, it'll never end.

Great thread idea.

This is important. How do we reduce alcohol related deaths? Prohibition, as I posted about recently, does not work at all. It fails horribly. But how do you greatly reduce those deaths?

The problem is improper use of alcohol or improper actions due to alcohol. So how do you target that problem? The "PSA"s don't work....or do they? Anyone know?

I do know that self-driving cars will greatly impact alcohol related deaths. So there's that.

Anyone else have ideas?

This is why we don''t ban booze:
