Trump imposing Indefinite Tariffs on Steel and Aluminum Imports
25% on Steel
10% on Aluminum
Another Promise fulfilled. Now which liberals will claim the sky is falling.

So the stock markets have already taken a dip based on this announcement. No wonder, because tariffs invariably spark retaliations which damage growth for all involved, and cause disruptions to supply chains and international commerce. And if Obama's tire tariff is anything to go by, these tariffs will end up costing more jobs than they save. So a stupid decision all around, basically.

Indeed, and of course other countries don't impose tariffs so it's wrong for us to do what nobody else does.

They havent actually gone into effect.

Really, the only use for tariffs is as leverage in negotiations to open up markets, and no-one should be under the illusion that it is actually a good thing to have them. The long term goal should be to eliminate such barriers, if possible.
Originally posted by Blindside12I'm aware. But they will soon go into effect, and the markets and global community are reacting with great concern because tariffs are stupid and make everyone poorer.
