Just to be clear I don't use these things. Yet I can't deny twitter is a dominant force among social media and the media in general. So is Facebook, which has similar problems of censorship. You will see entire news articles based on a tweet these days. It's silly, but it's the reality we are living in.
So if someone wanted to switch to a different platform, what about all their friends and family? Will they have to get them to switch there too? You say it's simple, but I would imagine it's not if you are really into using social media.
Have facebook and twitter ever really been seen as bastions of free speech? Bottom line: They can ban whoever they want for whatever reason, any website can, no one has a right to use either of these sites, or any other. And that's how it should stay. Introducing government and forcing the hand of private companies is definitely a violation of their freedom of speech.

No they haven't, but the argument is that as twitter and facebook become more powerful they essentially will have too much control over speech and too much power for any other platforms to really take off.
And look I'm torn on this because I do believe in private companies being able to do these things, but I feel like this could lead us into much darker territory than some guy refusing to sell a cake ever could.
So I'm not disagreeing with you about their rights, I just worry about the power these private corporations are gaining.
EDIT: And they have access to massive amounts of data about us already. It's just disturbing.

Sure it would be nice if they were as consistent as possible about who they banned and why, but I think their desire for money will probably stop them from going too overboard on that, roughly half the country is conservative, they'd not be doing their bottom line any favors by antagonizing them.

I don't think they are getting hit very hard by censoring. I use these platforms every day to create campaigns and monetize.
The left tends to be more active on the web and uses more social media platforms. You don't have to believe me, go to FB create a business (fake) and create a campaign using their material for demographics, it literally spells out the users.
