Well, here you go...

Denis Villeneuve Responds To Criticisms That The Sci-Fi Epic Is A White Savior Story

In short: Obviously if you know how the Paul Atreides character evolves by the end of the novel and into the next book, then it's easy to see that it actually is a condemnation of the very cliché, a need for any savior.

My friend and I were actually discussing this a little yesterday, because

Spoiler:
it's yet another thing that Star Wars stole from better science fiction: Paul, or Anakin were the chosen ones, but they ultimately turn into @ssholes, lol

Which is why hopefully Denis can complete the trilogy. Hopefully Dune can perform well enough.

You see it's funny but I like book 6 Charterhouse best. I hate anything Dune novel related not written by Frank.

the one where

Spoiler:
the bene gesserit baby-raped miles teg
?. can you imagine if they adapted that scene 100% laughcry

my favorite book is god emperor

Seems like Dune going to have a theater release alongside HBO Max, still going to watch it in theaters first, epics like this need the big screen.

Yup chapterhouse damn spell check. God Emperor is great. All six are great to be honest.

Do it as Villeneuve intended, on the big screen (if you can safely, of course).

I might do that too, but first viewing will be at home

I don't get HBOmax up here (and I don't want it anyway) and the theatres are open. I will be seeing this in the theatre.

Biggest screen I can find is what I will be watching on.

Does anyone do IMAX anymore?

I haven't done it in years. I found it to be distractingly loud and not necessarily worth the extra money.

Plus it seemed like they had to crop the aspect ratio for it last time I went. And that annoys the shit out of me.

it's looking like the scifi channel dune's baron harkonnen will always be the most accurate. and why's he bathing in black goo? that was an invention of david lynch. that worries me for obvious reasons, and i swear if they bring back those stupid weirding modules, or make muad'dib onto super-jesus again, i'm so outta here. chaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

Don't hate, exfoliate. 🙂

It has some great characters and world building, but it also has one of the most anticlimactic endings I've ever read.

I was actually quite wondering about this. If they filmed it in 16:9 they better goddamn release it that way on blu-ray and not cut it to letterbox. That will be fu#king infuriating...

if the weirding modules are back I want cgi young Peter Frampton starring in it. "DO YOU FEEL ALRIGHT".

This is something incredible. The film exactly repeats the novel. No unnecessary pathos, very harmonious scenes. Finally, a normal movie!

I saw Prisoners recently and it is one of the best movies ive ever seen, it is probably in my top 10 best films ever. Sicario is excellent, and same with Arrival.
