Like I said before, I don’t have my books with me, but this is the best I can recall.
In HP DD, thanks to Waverider, we saw the origin of DD. Billions of years in past Krypton, we saw how DD was born. He was recreated over at least a thousands of times by cloning his dead predecessor that died on Krypton.
The cloning process were done after DD, or what was to become DD was actually dead. Not half dead, not unconscious, but actually dead.
Nowhere was it mentioned that DD’s father possesses the power to bring back the soul of the original child that would become DD after each cloning.
Now, someone might make the arguments that DD’s soul was cloned with him, but thatnwould be pretty farfetched.
So DarkSaint, you can take this explanation as a proof DD indeed has no soul, or you could argue he does indeed have a soul. Your choice.

Surfer cant do anything to him offensively, his attacks will be tanked, he can't do anything before he would get beaten to death, and he's too slow to perceive or react to DD in any way.

People are just throwing he beats DD casually, yet forgot what DD evolved from in H/P.
DD was hit by Waverider’s chrono energies, Waverider tried it again. DD evolve past it to the point the feedback that hit Waverider was so strong it knocked him back.
If DD can evolve pass Chrono energy after the first strike, he’ll evolve pass the cosmic powers too.
Surfer’s best chance is to kill DD with his power cosmics in the first hit. If not, Surfer has long fight in his hands.
