Speculation on your part and also there's the fact that Thanos was about to outright murder Tony after stabbing him when Strange stopped him. So there's proof that Thanos wanted Tony dead while you're speculating against the proof.

Iron Man was able to endure the Power Stone for what? 3s or 4 before escaping it?
Also IM Mk 50 suit was able to take the full impact of an asteroid with 0 damage! 1000s of tons! Certainly that makes it hell as durable.
