One feat doesn't set an average, though. If he was consistently doing stuff like that (or even in the vein of what Superman does), people would look at him differently. But he doesn't, so they don't.
Even if you want to say that J'onn is closer to Superman than he is to say, Diana and Arthur, that's still not the same as being Superman's equal. Mon-El is great, sure, and I'm guessing you're talking about their fight in the annual? Mon-El isn't as strong as Superman. Hell, even Zod isn't as strong as Superman. Superman, generally, isn't written as being equal to an average Kryptonian in terms of power level. He's generally written as having another gear he can access, and when he does, there isn't another hero that can reach him.
At least to me, anyway.

To be fair, he has a point. As much as J'onn is maligned for his Worfiness, there are times when people will look at his powerset, or some of his better feats, and extrapolate what they would do in J'onn's place. Even taking in to account how badly J'onn can be written at times, he does get a bit Surfery at times in debate threads.
Just not as much, obviously.
Superman is much stronger, and this isn't even debatable.
Although...I'd have fun with somebody arguing otherwise.

People have a tendency to go by what Superman says, not what actually happens on the page. Superman gives more lip-service than probably anybody in comics, until he start pushing the villain's shit in.
