Not necessarily. Plenty of novels and comics (even some rather obscure ones) have inspired large live-action productions all on their own. The games certainly helped a huge deal, but the show could have had a shot without them. Plus, they said even before the show came out that they were staying truer to the novels. I do think they will go into more detail and show the different Signs and how they work more in future seasons. There will be plenty of opportunities if they do stay true to the books, like when
Spoiler:Assuming the show gets that far, of course. Wonder who they will cast as Eskel and Lambert if they get to that point. Or hell, Vesemir. I've seen some fan art of Mark Hamill done up as Vesemir. Looked pretty cool.

I think, perhaps, they don't have Gerry from Riv doing too much magic is the presence mages already have in the show-verse.
They are already ultra powerful magic users. But not necessarily warrior-classes like Witchers.
Witchers are weak magical users. They have super strength, but not super super strength - within 5-10 times as strong as humans. Barely super human strength. They have super healing. Again, feels like 5-10 times better than humans. Magic resistance, psionic resistance, evil-magic (eldritch, sometimes) resistance, and so forth.
They are not magically powerful like Mages.
Not super strong like trolls.
Not super resistant to magic like Giants.
They are a little bit of everything. Which makes them so good at their job (their abilities + their knowledge).
So I don't think we need lots of magic use to make Witchers be even more OP. I think a very powerful mage is almost always going to beat a Witcher. But a very good Witcher will almost always beat a very powerful mage if both are given the same amount of prep because Witchers specialize in that bullshit.
Edit - No f*ck all of you. I'm going to player Witcher 3 until my sweetheart gets home from work. WEEEEE!

Yeah, I kind of look at Witchers as the magical equivalent of a Super Soldier, with a tiny bit of Jedi thrown into the mix (let's be real; Aard and Axii are basically Force Push and Jedi Mind Trick). So, as you said, making them uber combat mages on top of that would make them too OP (and probably less interesting in the process).
But that's also one of the things that I love about this universe. It's pretty well balanced IMO. Barring very few exclusions, virtually anything can kill virtually anything else under the right circumstances. A skilled Witcher with prep might take out a monster that could tear its way through 20 soldiers, but if a dozen highly skilled assassins with prep catch a Witcher unaware, they're going to be in trouble. Even sorcerers can be brought down a peg with certain tools and weapons. And for all their power, many could easily be gutted by a faster monster before getting a spell off, hence the whole reason for creating Witchers who are fast enough to fight monsters.
Man, it's easy to nerd out on this shit.
Oh, and the Mark Hamill thing I mentioned previously. I like it:

Maybe, but lets be honest it's the games that got this series made 😛
It's an interesting thing to think about. The author has always been failry hostile towards the games, thinking that its his books that made the games more popular than the other way around. Of course, I think most people outside of Poland probably only heard of the Witcher because of the games.
That said, I think it's more every networks desire to have their own version of Game of Thrones that got the series made, more than the books or the show.
To be honest, the books aren't very good. The first one with short stories was solid enough, but the games are much better.

Yeah, people have been trying to cash in on this with varying degrees of success in the last coupe of years, hence shows like Britannia etc. as well. And since GoT ran its course, networks are particularly keen to fill that vacuum now. And The Witcher certainly looks like a front runner at this point.
But, generally speaking, most well-done fantasy shows and films are usually positively received. It's normally the crappy stuff that doesn't last or bombs. Which isn't necessarily the case for a lot of other genres, where even the good stuff can easily get overlooked.
Only got to see this because my sister gave me her Netflix password. I've never played the games or read the books and had no difficulty whatsoever following the plot, had to pay attention, particularly in the first couple of episodes but that's easy enough to do when the show is good. I don't even think they put too much world establishment in it, GoT just threw place names and peoples names at you in the first couple of seasons.

It's innocent and definitely adorable - no harm here. I think he was just bored with all the talking going on and he was messing with her. She's really young, like 13-14. He's not flirting. It's kind of telling of the people automatically thinking this was flirting instead of just them joking around.

I think he'd probably prefer to think his work did this. And hey there was a polish show based on this called the hexer lol. But yeah, the games are massively popular.
And hell, after this series aired Witcher 3 had more people playing on Steam than it did on launch day.
And I honestly feel The Witcher is better than Game of Thrones. I read one article that summed it up, it used a quote from Ian McShane about GoT, that it is all just "t*ts and dragons". The point made in the article is The Witcher fully embraces the "just t*ts and dragons" angle, while GoT doesn't.
And honestly I was never bored during Witcher. Game Of Thrones has some boring parts.

I don't know if he was flirting, but she looks like she'd f*ck him if he wanted.

She's 18 but she does look younger though. That gif however just comes across as the kind of goofing around a guy might do with his kid or his younger sibling TBH.

It's just being dense on his part. There's no way you can look at the popularity of the brand and not see that it rose drastically with the games, particularly the third one which one all sorts of awards and is widely considered one of the best games of this generation and even now of all time.
Yeah Witcher is much more straight forward about what it is than GoT I guess, but I don't think GoT was ever really just about **** and dragons, it had a lot of depth and I think G.R.R Martin is a way better writer than the author of The Witcher books. The books being more shallow than GoT probably is just because the author simply isn't as talented as Martin.
But the show, yeah it's a lot more hammy than GoT's. It'll be interesting to see how it is in season 2 when there's more of a straight forward narative arc than there has been in season 1. I think the early seasons of GoT are still much better than season 1 of the Witcher, but I think it'll be much harder to **** up The Witcher like they did with the GoT TV show.
The author was just upset that when Cdprojekt offered him a 5% portion of the profits he told them the game series won't be very profitable so he just wants a flat sum of less than ten grand. He's lucky they didn't make him eat from their shitpan after he tried to sue them for more money.
Also, this show isn't anywhere near as good as early Game of Thrones. It's not even close.
It's better than late GoT though.

Looks to me like they're sharing some inside joke, probably from when they were working on the show. And the sad thing is this is exactly the kind of thing why Cavill said he's not big on dating in modern times.
https://www.insider.com/henry-cavill-backlash-comments-flirting-dating-2018-7
Plus, from what I know, he's supposedly dating some stuntwoman named Lucy Cork in anyways. Seems they had an off and on thing, because they apparently split in the past, but was reported as being together again recently.
Was also going to post this earlier. Because there is also the fact that Cavill is actually kind of a goof with a history of joking around in interviews:
So, I could be wrong but, from what I can tell, it seems like a case of people on Reddit crying about nothing.
