Well that sucks.
For NI, sure.

FTR, Irish people don't really feel any real animosity towards the random English man or woman on the street. Hell, I support Man UTD. It's just that Irish history is kinda bloody, and most of that is because of the English invaders. Ireland fought hard for its freedom, and lost a lot in the process of it, so the likelihood of ever being under the banner of the UK again is literally zero barring some catastrophe.

Check this out, they don't teach it in our schools.

Well that's the thing: we don't know. Westminster has been dragging its feet for so long, which is made worse by the fact that there's a literal land border between Ireland and Northern Ireland that can't realistically be enforced. This "we'll get the deal we want" attitude from Johnson et al is going to **** everyone over if they don't cut the shit and get sorted.

Originally posted by -Pr-That's the thing. I was dumb enough to not recognise that we have a border with the EU and the good friday agreement means EU immigrants can pass through to Ireland, then NI then the UK. As have most. I once had an online friend from Sweden who immigrated to Ireland under EU law and worked as a customer service call centre guy back in 2014 and he was trying to get into the UK. He also said Sweden has turned to shit. But that's how Europeans are getting into the UK, via Ireland. I wish there was some simple solution.

Yeah, I can't stress enough how easy it is to access the UK through Northern Ireland.
I've said it before: there's a hospital I've had to go to here in Ireland that, while in Ireland itself, is most easily accessible through a road that goes in to and then back out of Northern Ireland.
You know how many checkpoints there are on that road? Zero.
Originally posted by -Pr-This only confirms my opinion that NI and Irealnd should be the same country. I think it makes more sense that they not be a part of the UK, but it's a bottomless well of so many asterisks.... My sympathies.

Originally posted by SurturThe hurdle is NI citizens get British citizenship. Irish citizens, do not unless they apply and go through stupid laws to make it so. Even north Americans have to go through the stupid immigration shit. But, in a hypo scenario you were born in NI, you're British. Born a few miles down the border, you're a foreign country.
Lol is that it, like what hurdles do Irish citizens need to jump to travel? How difficult is it?
Sucks, I know.
Brexit bill criticised as 'eye-watering' breach of international law

It's gonna really suck if Ireland gets the six counties back and has to foot the bill for NI's failing economy.

It sounds like you're saying the biggest burden is they have to fill out an application.
Originally posted by SurturA lot of people have duel citizenship of Irish and British. The problem is Britain mostly wants stricter immigration and Ireland is more lenient. However, northern ireland blurs the line as they can't decide whether or not they're Irish or British. I'd rather think less of it tbh.
