Whether Northern Ireland wants to be part of the UK or not, it's become blatantly obvious that the UK doesn't want them as anything more than a bargaining chip. And, with the ROI in a recession right now, the cost of taking back the six counties would be massive.
Because that's what Ireland would want: they'd want Northern Ireland to basically dissolve and to have a united Ireland.

Well I'm not sure that is what the 'UK' wants. Im not even sure its what the current government want. Of course in the wide complex of issues one might propose for rhetorical purposes that the lack of priority/attention to given X equals a set view of X but this doesn't seem right to me.
It's all very complicated, but though rats of the ship Britain might be that may yet be proved the wiser course of action.
