Bonified abstract
I argue that it's always been this way, only with more established characters than BP. Let's say...Batman.
He's on the team of gods - but comics need him to stay relevant to the team. So he outperforms many of his team mates, and depending on the skill of the writer, it either makes his team mates look bad (Ewing) or good (Morrison BatGod).
When Morrison writes BatGod, he doesn't do it by having Bats leap in and KOing a threat who is strangling WW or Superman. That's a good writer.
Ewing does it by Worfing BP's team-mates. Look how extreme this Hulk, who I happen to be writing, is! Remember when Cates said he was the AllFather? Yeah, he's out for blood, and boom Hulk is deepthroating him!!
Oh crap, now I'm in a corner now. This Thor could KILL Galactus (whilst in space, without air), how DO I end this fight? Erm..erm...Ok, BP swoops in and claws that arm off! Yeah!
