I don't think anyone is going to be surprised by the general "men suck" vibe of this issue/series...

*sighs*

They really went there huh...
Oh my god

Over it.

I got the impression that he never used to do that. Why now?

I love that you guys are somewhat disturbed that the personification of evil rapes women. He should be one to rape men too.

Orion being a child of rape makes sense for the mythos anyways.

...

I'm just happy they haven't made Darkseid or Thanos gay yet. I'll take mass son murdering and backroom rapes over getting Icemanned up the poopchute.

Heres the thing though smartass we know that it makes sense for the personfication of evil to rape but they're not doing it for that reason. It's not neccesarily what he does but why he does it. It looks like the writer has an agenda....again.

The problema is never the agenda, it's how heavy handed and poorly written it is. Writting a horny DS will be challenging for any writer so minor pens should avoid it like a plague.

Remember the good ol' times when comicbooks were well-written…?

Me neither

Nope it can certainly be the agenda even if it's written well, it depends on how bad that agenda is were they want to take us. I could also argue maybe the reason why it's written badly is because it's a reflection of their political beliefs.

Comicbooks were never written well? What?

So it can be a good agenda but it can also be bad because it's an agenda?

The crux of my argument is that just a few master comicbook writers could write Darkseid wanting to get some a compelling plot.

The best part is that Cecil Castellucci(the dykie feminist who is writing this mini) thinks she is staying 100% true to Kirby's original vision:
It's interesting because as this idea about gender equality was brewing up inside of me and I was combing through Kirby's pages and pages of work, I saw that a lot of that stuff was already embedded in his world and the way that Darkseid and his Cronies talk about Granny and the Furies. It was really fascinating. I feel like I'm pulling directly from his world and highlighting the color or turning up the volume.

Kirby knew that women were capable and strong and equal, but he also knew that wasn't [widely seen to be] the case in his present day. So that's stitched in there. The way men comment on Barda's body. The way that men on Apokolips talk about the Furies. The way Gilotina, who's not in my book, handles a handsy guard. The way that Granny treats her own girls. It felt like a real ripe time to take a look at these kinds of issues within the context of a story that was already inherently commenting on it and addressing it.

Women have been enduring these kinds of stories of not being able to advance in fields for years, and even with progress being made, we still face challenges. Look at all the headlines these days. It's amazing that we're saying enough. With the Fourth World, I thought it would be interesting to see an awakening on the level of a 'Me Too' movement, but on a planet where everyone is really the bad guy --even the gals-- because everything is heightened.

lol

Sigh

I’m sure Putinbot would love this issue

Ugh, I'm going to waste too much time and effort on this, but okay.

The issue isn't that Darkseid is going all Harvey Weinstein on her, nor should it be. He's Darkseid. He's done far worse than sexual assault in his time.

The problem is two-fold for me: One, that they're using Granny Goodness as his victim. She has typically been written and portrayed as being second only to the likes of Desaad in her cruelty and malice. She's a bad egg in the truest sense of the word, and it honestly looks like she's only going to end up that way because what, Darkseid molested/raped her? Way to take away her agency there, dear writer.

Secondly... IT'S DARKSEID. The man is considered a literal god by all of Apokolips. If he so much as hinted that he needed to get some, you can bet your motherbox that Granny would be the first in line to help him out.

The thing is, you could do a similar story and have it make sense. Have the Fury be a new recruit. Maybe she's someone that doesn't drink the Kool-Aid. Or maybe she's a prisoner of war that Granny wants to brainwash in to willingly joining the Furies. There are a ton of ways you could do it, but no, we get this low effort shite.

What you probably mean is "this low effort shite that is so true to Kirby's spirit" 😖hifty:

And this is you backtracking because you said it's never about the agenda and I proved you wrong. Wether or not it can be good and also bad because it's an agenda is a topic for another discussion.

Which is kinda silly because my argument was never aboiut the quality but the intention behind it. Aquaman has got an agenda and so far is well written and I still don't like it, but it's not enough for me to quit...yet. However I did consider writing to complain.

Does Apoc even have a cock to get laid with?

I assume you mean Darkseid? I think it's more likely than not tbh.

It's ok to not like on principle. It's fine, really.
