Funnily enough, I can say a similar thing about Superman in Infinite Crisis - it started with all that bullshit about "the last time you inspired anyone, was when you were dead" line, but his speech at the end as he beat Prime was good.
Idk other than Final Crisis, Darkseid War, Blackest Night I can't think of any big events come close to KC in the last couple decades for DC
As far as Elseworlds go, Superman: Secret Identity by Kurt Busiek is still probably my favorite [well...except All-Star Superman, of course]. And events? Final Crisis/Superman Beyond, Seven Soldiers, Multiversity [ok, ok, too much Morrison], Sinestro Corps War [!], were all pretty good but -- yeah, in terms of 'events' [i.e. multiple characters] there's not much to write home about. Darkseid War was utter shit, tbh. Blackest Night was above average, but it was forever in the shadow of SCW. THat SCW Special when it first came out, with that last page, was....really something.
Originally posted by -Pr-Beyond was great, no doubt about it. I still think A/S Superman is, like, the peak of a self-contained Superman story though... SO many moments that still give me the chills to this day. I've probably read it at least a dozen times from start to finish and it never gets old.
Superman Beyond > All-Star Superman.

SCW is great, I forgot about that one. That was probably the peak of Johns writing, that and his early 00s Flash run. I can understand why people don't like DS war. It started out so well but rushed to a deus ex machina ending. So much potential wasted
As far as Morrison goes
I didn't enjoy Final Crisis main books as much as I should be, the art was what killed it for me.
But the side books are all amazing. especially rogues revenge and revelation.
Superman: Red Son as far as elseworlds superman stories. My fav origin story would be Birthright
But yeah the art is what made half of Kingdom Come the masterpiece it is. The epicness of it blending with the religious subtext rise the book above simple comics, it's literature

Yeah, Compared to KC I much prefer All-Star Superman story, TBH, I personally think what elevated KC is it's art style same opinion with Philo.
I argued this with PR at one point. Something along the lines of him not seeing supes as the embodiment of American ideology or something and Ross art style. But AS was really good from a standalone supes story. Especially when Lex became aware towards the end. It spoke so much about his character and why he's the ultimate hero.
What's weird is that people don't view Earth X in the same vein. It's almost the exact opposite

It's brilliant, don't get me wrong. The Superman in Beyond just appeals to me more as a character than he did in All-Star. Mind you I fully accept that my ideal Superman portrayal is generally different to that of most of his other fans.

And yeah, as much as I like Alex Ross, his art only really works for me when people are standing still. It often lacks a dynamism and a motion that much weaker artists are capable of portraying better.

Pretty much. I did like in All-Star too, that in that issue you actually see her doctor being delayed and talking on the phone about it in the background of the panel.
I like him monitoring stuff in the background, even that of a single person, in case his help is needed.
It's still quite amazing that we have, in canon, Superman's story as literally being 'I get as powerful as I need to be to save the day'.

It felt like they were just finally getting around to confirming what you and I have been saying for years, tbh. It is nice to see though, yeah.
