Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker - Discussion Thread

Yeah, it evidently all comes from inside sources, so there's a good chance it's legit(hence the spoiler tags.)

Here's hoping it's not, though. 👆

These spoilers seem like terrible, terrible fan fiction. Having said that, I can totally see this as being legit, because honestly at this point, where else could they reasonably go with this?

Have you guys heard the theory that

Spoiler:
Palpatine survived Endor by transferring his essence into Vader's mask (not unlike Lord Momin did to his own mask in the comics)..? According to this theory, it would have actually been Palpatine himself who Kylo had been speaking to during his convos with Vader's mask, which would totally explain his "show me again the power of the darkness" dialogue from TFA(that never did make sense to me because Vader/Anakin was fully redeemed at the end of RotJ, and even appeared as a force ghost alongside the Jedi -- so why would his essence now be showing Kylo the path to the dark side..?)

But anywho, when the mask was finally destroyed, Palpatine's spirit was sent scurrying for a new vessel, etc.

Obviously that doesn't really mesh with the current leaks, but I'd probably prefer this backstory, tbh.

That would actually make a TON of sense, because Sheev possessed Momin's mask for YEARS, and over that time he studied it and spoke to it.

Would at least make that whole thing better..

nah that would actually be pure aids 👇

You know it dawns on me about this New Republic in Canon and it's fleet...or well lack thereof now I guess.

...Does this mean the Judicial Forces aren't the worst Republic forces anymore?

I'll like that theory if

Spoiler:
Anakin is possessing the Skywalker Saber

That would make Luke throwing the lightsaber over his shoulder very....bothersome to say the least.

Spoiler:
Kyber crystals already possess a sentience of sorts, and can 'choose' their user to an extent. That would likely explain why it seemed to pick Rey over Kylo.

...Now *why* it would choose the granddaughter of Palpatine is another matter. /shrug

All these little theories about how "it would all make sense"... as if these movies had any vision or direction from the beginning. Retconning your broken storyline because you had no goddamn clue what you were doing when you started out is really f*cking lame.

I hate saying that the Prequels felt like they had more direction than this series, but they did. Hopefully Ep. 9 is complete fanboy pandering schlock, and by the sounds of these leaks, it is.

I guess I just don't get how the Emperor could survive his fall down the reactor shaft in ROTJ. Never mind its explosion immediately afterward. 😕

He could have survived the fall like Kylo did here:

Surviving the explosion could be explained a few ways. Perhaps he could have shielded himself from it with some sort of force shield/cocoon, or perhaps he could have simply been evac'd out by one of his minions(there were several minutes between when he was thrown down the shaft and when the Death Star went kablooey, after all.)

My question is: if Palpatine survived the initial fall, then why was there still a massive surge of dark side energy afterward..?

The dark energy surge could be an effect of the technique he used to survive.

A bigger question is - why is Palpatine apparently disintegrated in the process?

Palpatine surviving contradicts plots of the OT and PT about Anakin bringing balance to the Force.

Disney really doesn't want to be Canon. 😆

To be fair, he survived in Legends, too.

He did, however that was before the PT was even a concept along with The Chosen One prophecy and how important Anakin was.

Here in the now, that’s not the case.

Also I gotta stop seeing potential leaks, the more I do, the worse it seems this movie will be.

I mean, the prophecy didn't say how long the "balance" would last, did it..?

I mean sure, you could look at it like that. Or at the least defeating the most powerful disruption of The Force, in this case being Sidious. Since there always will be a dark side and thus dark Force Users and thus potential Sith.

The same with Jedi, really there is no end to either.
