If you look at literally any other piece of media connected to either Canon or Legends, it will expand on the level of power displayed. Things literally canon to the movies but I digress.

Using movies/TV only however, we can see the difference in lightning from Dooku level to Sidious, so we know it varies at the least. We also see Anakin survive being cut in half and lit on fire survive feet away from lava. I think it a safe assumption his suit was built to defend against heat to a degree far more suitable than his bare skin. Can we make that assumption?

So Sidious - who could punch through dimensional walls with sorcery - killing him with lightning doesn't seem so ordinary.
