Mercury looks remarkably like the moon (see my pic above). It's still a major feat to throw something by hand from Mercury to the Sun, not saying it isn't.
I just don't think they were in the Earth/moon system, considering Asgardia was burning down due to it's proximity. That shaves a mere 100million km of distance off.

Asgardia was already partially burning up because of mango's attack. destroyer beams, magic attacks maybe, lightning from Odinson, etc... it started to burn even more when Jane showed up with a variety of lightning attacks. Guess what? It burned even more when Mango brought his dumb@$$ back from the sun and caused a big explosion. He literally brought fire from the sun back to Asgardia while they were around the earth moon system. Hence why Asgardia was burning up long before it reached the Sun.
A bunch of them never made it out of the earth moon system. They ended up parking themselves at the moon and waited for Odinson.

You said that they were in the Earth Moon system. I'm just finding it funny that high school science projects - also in the Earth Moon system - don't burn up, yet Asgardia does.
