Well, up until my mom remarried the three of us had it pretty rough. The only time I remember before then getting new clothes or shoes was when I would get them as a Christmas or birthday present from relatives.
After she remarried (when I was still a pre-teen) things started to get easier but we were still far from being wealthy. They were never able to afford to get me a car as a teenager. In fact, I never got a car at all until a couple of years after I had come home from the Navy in the early to mid nineties and that was only because I inherited a little bit of money from my rich grandfather who had died.
Now of course I can afford all the basic necessities but I am far from being a rich person. I am riddled with overwhelming debt but at least I have a roof over my head, clothes, and food.
