What was good about Goro in the original movie was that he was a giant puppet, who kinda marked the end of the practical effects era of the 90's before everything started going full CG. Won't complain about seeing a CGI Goro now obviously, but still.
Well they're still using practical these days but it's more of a mix of practical and CG.
