I've watched this movie about 6 times over the past 2 days. I've come to the conclusion that it is my favorite zombie movie of all time.
I think it took the basic statement of other zombie movies (humans being more monsterous then zombies) and developed it beautifully, culminating in one of the most powerful (all be it somewhat illogical) ending ever included in a horror film..
Definately a movie that will become a classic in the same sense as Dawn of the Dead and others.
I think toward the middle and the end it wasnt about the zombies anymore. It more or less became about the struggle of humanity. Not to mention I feel like the ending had really nothing to do with the movie that preceded it. Excellent atmosphere, and it was great from begginning until they got to the military compound. Yet in a sense, I enjoyed every minute of it. I'm almost puzzled by my own conclusion, but I'm glad I bought this one 😄
All I can say is I loved that movie! It was so hard to leave it out of my top 10, but its sucks agreeing with BF all the time and I didn't want a list just like his hehe.
Now lets talk up some 28 Days Later (although I'm sure these points are covered)
In the beginning the sound of silence was so fascinating. I couldn't help but think what that would feel like. Couple of scenes stand out to me at the moment. First, the scene where he takes the money and puts it in his bag. I would have done that as sad as it seems, but it shows are connection to the capitalist world we live in and how hard it is to let go of. Second,
Spoiler:
the scene when he goes into the church to find all the bodies ( i assume a mass suicide) and he says "hello" and a couple heads pop up...creeping to say the least
On the DVD there is a scene called "the neighbor"
Spoiler:I so loved that! I don't know what you call that effect they do during action scenes, but whatever it is mixed with the fast cuts and great music totally gets the adrenaline going.
he has the candle and then the scene jumps to the view from the neighbors eyes and the candle's light in the distant window, then a quick flash of him hearing something and back to the view with the window right in front of you then BAM!
That was just a few scenes i enjoyed I wont go into all of them right now because i would be typing for an hour. I will say this though. I got this feel from the fight scenes where they were ultra violent and at the same time not at all. I been thinking about it and I've come to the conclusion the violence is half the movie and half my imagination. The scenes are cut so fast and the images blur into this mad fury of blood, metal and skin. Your mind is racing the images trying to make sense of it all, filling in spaces and working the scene out twice visually and mentally. I dont know if you can tell but I dug that sh*t. Maybe no one else understands what I mean or cares, but thats what I saw. The illusion of gore. Crap! ran out of space...I'll do more scenes I liked next time.

i agree. for different reasons i hated it too...!
Well if you aproaced the film expecting a normal zombie movie, then I can definately see how you were disapointed. This wasn't a traditional horror film, it's more a drama about the dehumanization of man during traumatic times. It is incredibly honest about the situations portrayed in teh film, especially the whole 'women as sex objects' statement it makes. It uses the zombies simply as a device towards armageddon, also using them as some kind of authority to punish evil doers.
It relies more on character development and atmosphere to create a watchable experience. You actually care for the characters in the same way that you would in a heavy drama. Thus making it much more emotional when they get infected.
It's a shame you guys didn't like it, cuz it's probably the most unique and innovative take on a horror sub- genre you'll see for a good long time, and also just one of the best horror films you'll see ever.
Oh I never said that I didnt like it, but yeah I was sortof expecting it to be all about the zombies and trying to survive. I didnt expect it to become about people and thier ugly intentions in times of despair, so it threw me off. I do love it though and would watch it again, which I'm planning to do this weekend at my sisters house.. tee hee
