If Gavin has ever attacked someone for any reason other than self defense I feel it is wrong, but this isn't really about the Proud Boys.

No, he's the type of coward who gets his "Boys" to do his fighting for him, so he can keep his hands clean. eg Like in the Oct 2018 NY incident where a group of Proud Boys were caught on on film stomping a person on the ground while screaming homophobic slurs.
