And Batman didn't beat him. He was on the losing end, until Black lightning zapped him. Batman actually admitted that Val outfought him. Classic version.

Batman who was at a disadvantage since he was unaccustomed to flying combat.

He still lectured the boy in that fight, not the other way round.
