You retain your own personality but gain all there knowledge skills and powers. and enter them ala being John Malkovitch. Explain why and what you would do and would you like to be them in their time and or location or now.

I would call-off the attack on Pearl Harbor to ensure the US stays out of the war. Japan would then focus on invading the entirety of Asia and India and aiding the Germans by invading Russia on the East Front, ensuring an Axis victory.

For a fictional character, I'm tempted to go for Sherlock Holmes as he's probably my favourite fictional character of all time, but I've read all the stories so I'm not sure how much fun could be had, Conan is a good shout but I'll opt for Han Solo.
