Prostitution is a thing because human interactions are pretty trade based. Some people will bed you for affection and support, others will do it for respect and cash. It's simple really.
Since we don't force regular checks on guys that seduce multiple women a week and lie to get laid it is kind of gray to force them into legal prostitutes. You will de facto create a rift between legal and illegal prostitution one in which checks are mostly ignored and thus become more dangerous. If you must make it legal and formalze it people should get a free license of prostitution without checks as long as they are able to past a test about sexual education and responsability. Actually everyone should past that kind of test.

I used to support legal prostitution but now I don't. Reason is the vast majority of women and girls in the sex trade are not there by choice, they are the victem of a trafficker or pimp, basically a modern day slave

The US, it's easy money. I worked with a guy temping at the post office who claimed he did adult entertainment work in New York, and it was just regular women doing a job, who act just like any women anywhere else. It only gets strange if you make it strange.
I think a very overlooked part of the problem is that it's presented as such a viable option for a young woman who is struggling, pretty much every adult woman on the planet has had a problem of sorts which she considered solving with sex or sexuality. Young women are conditioned to believe that they can just walk in off the street and start making money by stripping, pornography, etc. They're pretty much right, but I wonder how much of it is a self-fulfilling prophecy.
In the same way we try to dissuade men from solving problems with violence we should probably make the same effort to dissuade women from trying to solve problems by throwing their pussy on it.
I'm thinking only of the benefit for humankind, I'm quite happy to let women throw their pussy on my problems, heal the world ladies, heal the world.

Yes and no, the sex thing in general sure, but prostitution specifically is still largely looked down upon, at least here in the US. Where if a woman is a prostitute, she's sub-human, while no one bats an eye towards the men who are paying her for sex and creating the demand.
eg see the Stormy Danials/Trump affair, people insulted her for being a "disgusting ugly whore" because she sells herself, yet those same people really didn't have a negative thing to say towards Trump who paid to f**k that "disgusting ugly whore". Funny how that works out.
One thing that seems to be on the rise is web-based prostitution, where women, men and couples perform sexually for a viewer(s) in exchange for tokens that then convert to money. It's safer for all parties involved; the stigma doesn't seem to be anywhere near as bad when compared to good old fashioned prostitution.

DDM is not the first person my dick has triggered. Long ago on a holiday in Thailand a prostitute said to my friends she didn't want me to come back because my cock was too big and it frightened her, she preferred their small ones.
^Puts the fear of god into the hearts, minds, vaginas and buttholes of even Thai prostitutes

If you make prostitution legal and you want to force a permit on prostitutes some will make it illegally and become "protected" by pimps. If you keep it illegal then the same will happen really.
In most of the cases where the "slavery" comparision applies you are dealing with women who are already in poverty or are illegal, though disallowing them to get a different work or pressuring them into prostitution through debt or threats. The problem in those cases is not so much the sex trade as it is the mysery that allows it to be perpetuated.
