holy crap, yeah.speaking of luca, i didn't learn until last month that the actor was a pro wrestler and mafia enforcer/arsonist
Woah, never heard that.
Not surprised a wrestler would be a real Wiseguy, though. Everyone knows the story about how The Mountie had a hit put on Dynamite Kid, through Dino Bravo's ties with the Canadian mafia.

As were most Italians when they first came to the US - distrusting all others who were not Italian. Because of the extreme racism and discrimination against Italians.Hence the insularity and organized crime.
Pretty much. One guys group solidarity is another guys racism.

no he was specifically racist against black people. read the book before you give a lecture on it
Ah, the book.
You're right. The book adds in a lot of things, including Vito's feelings on blacks, and a sub plot involving a certain enhancement everyones glad never made it into the film version.

It's a well made movie, I just don't find it engaging at all. It has the same problem that almost all mob movies have for me (besides Goodfellas and Casino), and that's that I just find all the characters obnoxious and annoying and have no sympathy for them and want them to die.
If you didn't find it engaging then stick to superhero movies. The film is marvellous cinema; actions and images charged with meaning. The characters are nothing like Goodfellas or Casino; Michael the war hero, prodigal son, corrupted by the family's criminal empire and advancing through structures of power and deceit, Kay's heartbreak at the end etc. It's a rich and fascinating film.
