read it, it's horrific. Just to add downloaded Boltons new book on my spanking new Kindle today. Looking forward to reading it.
Yep. Coal lost under Trump, he didn't revive the industry as promised. Was a stupid promise to make in the first place.
Let me know what you think when you've finished the book, in the Bolton Book thread of course.

Before Trump became president, how many jobs were predicted to be lost vs. how many were actually lost?
If the data is to be represented honestly, the title should really be "Trump saved x coal jobs in waning coal industry."
Or, "Trump fails to deliver on campaign promise: coal jobs keep pace with pre-election losses."
Depending on whether or not he slowed the coal job loss trend. Coal is on the way out. It has been for a many years, now.

The story touches on that:
Coal miners may be the hardest working American’s who do a very dangerous job in unhealthy conditions. Unfortunately for them, market forces, along with continued concerns about climate change, have pummeled the industry. Trump’s desire and actions to help miners have at best kept the industry from declining further, while not investing in renewable energy, where there is progress, is hampering job growth and negatively impacting the environment. -snip
That was not the promise Trump made though, he promised to fully revive coal and we're still seeing losses. Which as noted was a fool's promise as the industry is dying in light of natural gas expanding and renewal sources getting stronger footholds

How is it possible to save a waning industry where even the energy companies (the suppliers straight to industrial and residential consumers) don't want coal energy?
You can't save it. Only delay the inevitable.
However, if you take a look at the numbers by year, you can see the details:
Obama's last term:
January 2012: 89,700
Dec 2016: 50,500
Result in 4 years: -39,200 jobs
Trump's first term (so far):
January 2017: 50,900
May 2020: 46,600
Result in 4 years: -4,300 jobs

However, jobs were quickly growing in May. I expect June to do the same. We'll see what coal jobs look like in 2.5 months. Very bad news for the Democrats, from a voter perspective in the rust belt states, if Trump can come close to Jan 2017 job figures in a waning industry.

When Trump took office in Jan 2017 coal was at 50.9, it's gone up and down a bit since then with a peak of 52.3. He's at best put a bandaid on it as the story noted. It's now a 46.6, even if it keep going upward a little at a time all the way to November, it's probably too little too late.
It's also not what he promised the coal industry. Though it should be noted that he probably still has the majority of coal votes despite his failure to 'fully revive coal'.
"Beautiful clean coal." -Trump

1.3m more file for unemployment as US economy continues to reel
The US unemployment rate dropped to 11.1 percent in June 2020, easing further from an all-time high of 14.7 percent reached in April and remaining below market expectations of 12.3 percent, as many people returned to the labor market following weeks of coronavirus-induced restrictions. The number of unemployed persons fell by 3.2 million to 17.8 million, while employment rose by 4.9 million to 142.2 million. Although unemployment fell in May and June, the jobless rate and the number of unemployed are up by 7.6 percentage points and 12.0 million, respectively, since February.

1.3 million more Americans filed for unemployment in the US last week as the economy continues to reel from. the Covid-19 pandemic.
The number of new claims has dropped over the past 16 weeks, decreasing 10,000 last week compared to the week before, though the number has hovered above 1 million over the last month. -snip
Why did those facts upset Broly?
