Different nuance is needed for different conversations. Your quote mining you did there was probably in a very different context in the Religion forum I assume (linking to the context would be courteous) where the main topic was Islam and Christianity ("revealed religions"😉. Many people are fooled or deceived and thus over time a religion is birthed. Yes, Islam and Christianity are basically giant cults. Same with Scientology, Mormonism. But that's not to say that Buddhism and Hinduism or Taoism or Jainism, etc are cults in the same way. You may be right, they may have some cult-like aspects to them, but I'm not as familiar with their origins, tbh. Though I'm sure they do have their damaging dogmas and goofiness, like the caste system and various dogmatic texts, rituals, relics, etc.

For people talking about Buddhism I'd love an explanation for why the definition of cult posted does not apply there. I agree not all cults are the same(I also said this previously) but the definition there applies to every religion you guys seem to be mentioning.
Not all cults are the same but remember when it comes to cults it's less about that some are good and some are bad it's more...some are harmless and some are not.
