Traces of COVID-19 have been found in sewage samples from Spain, Italy and Brazil which pre-date its discovery in China. A preprint study, which has not been peer reviewed, claims to have found the presence of SARS-CoV-2 genomes in a Barcelona sewage sample from 12 March 2019.
If true, Trump will still blame China. It's an election year and he can't change the narrative this late.
I knew Italy had released info saying they'd found traces of the virus in sewage dating back to December. But 9 months before that is troubling. I knew about the meat processing plants having problems but had no idea how widespread it was. 2 in the UK have shut down including from the same company that are the biggest employer is the town where I work. Very worrying.

Colds (such as the rhinovirus and coronovavirus) and Flus (such as H1N1 and H7N9) really do go through cycles. They mutate at an almost predictable rate, as well. Mutating in such a way that our b-cells need to be reprogrammed to protect us.
It's seasonal. Doesn't necessarily go dormant. Known as viral latency. Herpes simplex virus is a great example of this latency phase.
