Old man whirly 🤣

So this took a while but thankfully its moving forward:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-57004302.amp

Basically There were issues in the States putting a waiver on Patents on the Vaccines for a global vaccine program.

All coming down to Big Pharma not wanting to lose out on profits.

So much for ilikecomics theory that 100% pure unhindered, untaxed and unregulated capitalism would be the perfect way to live.

Also I do wonder if this would have gotten done under the Republicans.

During a pandemic, it's a good thing.

Look at India, it's about to boil over (if it hasn't already) and that could potentially start to affect the rest of the world. They're going to need over a billion doses at minimum.

The virus infected over 1.6 million people worldwide, while some 356,000 people recovered from the disease, according to data compiled by the U.S.’ Johns Hopkins University. Some 96,000 have died.

But, yet, our hospitals were adequate enough to combat the 2017-2018 seasonal flu when 70,000 people died due to it.

Meanwhile, our hospitals are empty because we are really "busy" combating COVID-19.

Hint: this year's flu + COVID-19 < 2017-2018 seasonal flu.

"But but, all at once!" If we ended the lockdowns and never shut down the country, but only restricted visitation to the vulnerable and elderly, we'd be much more quickly on the way to being over it than we are now.

Seasonal Flu, is different, it doesn't behave in the same way at all, it is far less equipment intensive for one thing.

If you ended the shut downs with this because it is a new disease and people have no resistance it might rip through many emerging nations.

🙂

In the US, 61k people died during the 2017-2018 seasonal flu. On average 34k-43k die each year.

By that calculation, only about 18k-27k should have died from Covid in the US. We had over 350K in 2020.

thing nis DDM was gaslighting and radicalising not very bright people online imo.

I don't get the appeal.

The US has crossed 600k covid deaths. This is not a "little flu".

Yeah and if you had no shut downs your death toll would have been multiple times higher.

Because its a social virus. Its the compounding effect of infections that makes it so dangerous.

Agreed, it was such a disturbing set of conversations with him and his pals.

Yup.

Was so odd to see people vehemently arguing against wearing masks, against social distancing and against lockdowns, despite the logic/science backing it.

Also the staunch "We'll never cross 10k deaths", then 20,30,50,75,100, 150 etc., despite the numbers showing it.

edit: or what Whirly said, "disturbing"

they would just double down, support each other and spew shite.

It's one thing to play assgrabby nonsense games when talking about fictional characters fighting each other. But an actual pandemic where misinformation can (and did) cause harm.

I personal think they truly were radicalised. Interestingly, in the UK white supremacists get locked up for short periods on low sentence crimes like serial shoplifting to radicalised vulnerable young people in prison. I do think grooming was going on and probably still is on Discord a known grooming tool.

Also think this had a lot to do with it:

Trump Fueled 38% Of Pandemic Misinformation, Conspiracies: Study

"We conclude that the President of the United States was likely the largest driver of the COVID-19 misinformation 'infodemic,'" said Cornell University researchers after analyzing 38 million English-language online articles about the pandemic. Other reports of President Donald Trump twisting the facts are also in the news." -snip

Which we all saw with our own eyes, from blatant lies like "we've contained Covid" and "it's like a little flu", to pushing untested drugs because his "gut instinct" told him it cured covid.

No doubt, he and his cronies created this mess.

I mean I get it if people were losing income, still had their rent to pay, and were getting little/nil compensation for the lockdowns.

Its very easy from that situation to start believing the conspiracies.

I remember a friend of mine was losing out financially and was insistent the government here were making up the death numbers. Part of his logic was how can we have similar deaths to India when they are so heavily populated. Well we all know how things are in India now, and turns out Mohdi was underplaying how bad it was there this whole time.

I saw an estimate today that the number is probably closer to 900K due to under-reporting.

but I thought people in states like oklahoma just stopped dying from covid. the same miracle happened in china and russia

It's funny how Trump made all those conspiracy theories about China being a threat, and then when it actually is a threat, he denies it as one.

Just got my second shot, waiting on the 15 minutes.

If you don't hear from me again assume it did me in.

Yes, I AM a big baby, I will own that. 🙂
