Your brain isn't finished developing until you're 25, and the suicide rate for trans people is the same post and pre op.
I don't think it's helpful to treat mental illness as something you can medicalize is helpful.
There's a growing community of people who have detransitioned and they mostly say the same thing, which is that it was way too easy to access them and not enough psychological screening happened.
I think gender dysphoria is the result of being sexually/emotionally/physically abused and cutting off body parts or altering your endocrine system is not the answer. The same way throwing up or not eating isn't for those who have bulimia and anorexia respectively.

The idea that kids can pick a gender is something I'm very skeptical about, for the same reasons we don't let kids decide on any other important life altering decision. The judgement just isn't there.
