The biggest problem with this whole mess, the entire time, has been not enough testing and gross oversampling of people with severe cases of COVID-19-like symptoms. People die by the thousands of colds (pneumonia) each year in the US. A recent study followed 1946 patients and found that rhinovirus (common cold) had a significantly higher mortality rate than the Flu (multiple strains).

A lot of the same people who die from the Flu and the Cold are also dying from SARS-CoV-2.
And if people think the cold (rhinovirus) is not serious business, it kills kids by the droves each year in certain genetically susceptible groups.

partisan circlejerks aside: what if there is no cure? that's hardly doom and gloom speculation since there has never been a cure or vaccine for coronaviruses. the only upside was that they were never particularly dangerous on a large scale, but the point remains that --apart from wive's tales about chicken soup and the benefits of vitamin c-- the human race has never found a way to prevent or cure caronaviruses. it's always been strictly up to our own immune systems to combat and destroy it, same as it was for our great great great grandparents.
