Is bug fighting animal cruelty?

On the internet, I have noticed that a lot of people have uploaded videos of arena fights between bugs as some kind of gladiator match with creatures like spiders, ants, wasps, scorpions, centipedes, beetles etc. on stuff like Monster Bug Wars and Japanese Bug Fighting. They deliberately make them clash with each other. Is that animal cruelty?

I view bugs as little more than biological automatons, so no.

Yes, it is cruelty.

A few friends cooked a jellyfish like an egg with a 50,000 watt flood light. It was absolutely an act of cruelty, because cruelty is defined more by intent. Making bugs fight in a death match is totally a cruel ass move.

nope.

**** bugs.

Never kill a spider then.

Spiders eat bugs.

Eh, yeah.

You're collecting them for the sake of watching them kill each other, that's pretty ****ed.

I try not to kill non-threatening bugs if I can help it, bugs that bite or sting will feel my wrath tho. Crickets get in all the time and I just pick them up and let em outside, to which my mom and sister freak out at.

In my mind, bugs = all arthropods

Not all are dumb automatons. Some are very tiny but are absurdly intelligent like a slightly dumber cat: the Portia Spider.

Some are no better than biological automatons like almost every single ant species. Perhaps some species of the Bulldog ant are closer to intelligent spiders: they appear to be very intelligent.

Watch this Bulldog Ant stalk and kill a preying mantis by using it's massive jaws to immobilize the mantis' dangerous arms before stinging it with it's paralyzing neurotoxin:

YouTube video

Making anything fight, that is "alive" is immoral, in my opinion. If we have robots obtain general artificial intelligence, even if quite dumb in the beginning, it will be wrong to make them fight as well.

Making bugs fight is appalling and I make sure to squash all bug fights....(with mah foot.)

LOL. No, it is not animal cruelty because insects are not animals. They're... well... insects lol.

I know they do, but if I see one it's gotta die. I can't just let it go.

I didn't know people had bug fights. I mean...I dunno, I'd love to see a bear fight a tiger so I can't judge.

Next we'll be hearing about leftist retards marching for "bug rights" lol.

LOL. No, it is not animal cruelty because insects are not animals.
I know thinking is hard but try again, do your best, and one day you might not be such an embarrassment to your few functioning neurons.

Insects are not animals, troll.

Yes they are you stupid moron. 😂

When I was a kid, there were some things I liked doing to bugs:

1. I'd roll two ants together to make them fight.
2. I'd throw a big bug into a mass of ants.
3. I'd throw a bug into a spider web.

These days I leave them be ... except if they're in my house. Then it's a swift and merciful death ... unless it's a spider. I either leave it alone, or pick it up gently with a tissue and deposit it outside.

Oh, and I wasn't always so kind to butterflies and Japanese beetles (especially the latter: I'd stick a pin in their butt and twirl it so they'd try to fly: I could observe their wing action close up. Butterflies/moths: I'd just rub the powder off their wings).

I never thought of any of this stuff as "cruel" (I mean, they're bugs, c'mon). Mostly, it was just fascinating to watch.

Yeah if it was simulated but if two people gathered a bear and a tiger and trained them to kill the other they'd be pretty ****ed up, no?

Only if the bear loses...
