The real reason Kent Hovind was wrongly imprisoned for ten years

The official reason was "breaking 'structuring laws'" which are probably the dumbest laws ever made but the real reason was for the video of his contained in the link below:

In Hovind's own words (paraphrased, at least): A Swat team with guns drawn broke down the doors to his house one morning while he and his wife were still in bed sleeping, dragged him to the floor w/guns pointing at him, and demanded he hand over his seminar video that exposes the dangers of evolutionary teaching and how it is the overriding philosophy in Naziism, communism, racism, and socialism. It is the exact same video contained in the link above.

That's good the FBI didn't catch that one.

Ah I see, re-reading the OP it was his showing the video itself that got him imprisoned.

Yeah, according to him, the swat team that arrested him demanded he turn over all copies of video number so-and-so (whatever the actual number was I don't know it but it is the video contained above).

At least that's what he claims is the real reason he was arrested. I'm not sure if he actually really did break that dumbass structuring law or not.

You see, anytime anyone takes any amount of $10k or over out of the bank the bank is required to report the action to the feds (perhaps it helps them catch drug dealers and robbers I guess?). So, if you take $9,999.99 out of the bank it is not reported.

The feds case against Hovind was that he got around his large withdrawals that he routinely took out from being reported by only taking out a few thousand at a time over a short time period. So, it ended-up being well more than $10k total that he withdrew. However, he, like most people still are, was completely ignorant of that particular law and so didn't realize he was engaging in "structuring" activity.

So I guess my OP could've been worded a little better. He wasn't accused of "breaking" structuring laws but was convicted of ENGAGING in "structuring." As I said, that is the official reason for why he was locked-away for a decade. Not sure if it was the actual reason though.

This thread should almost be merged with the current Nazi Thread.

Btw, even though Hovind currently resides in Alabama, he is originally from some place in Illinois. Some small town that starts with a "P". Pioria, maybe? Don't know if that's an actual town in your state or not, Surtur.
