Rob Skiba, an influential figure in flat earth and Christian circles, has died of COVID-19, colleagues announced on Thursday.

He had been fighting the virus since at least late August, when he began exhibiting symptoms after "Take On the World," a biblical flat earth conference.

"He has been sick since coming back from TOTW," a Facebook friend posted in early September, adding that Skiba had been hospitalized for low oxygen levels.

One of the country's most prominent advocates of Flat Earth Theory, Skiba was also skeptical of COVID-19 vaccines and some of the illness' treatments.

Skiba authored numerous Facebook posts suggesting that the COVID-19 vaccines were dangerous.

Now he is dead. Stupid ****.

A conservative Anchorage political activist's illness at Providence Alaska Medical Center became a flashpoint in a battle over COVID-19 treatments this week, with a city Assembly member joining in a campaign to compel doctors to administer ivermectin, an unproven treatment for the virus.

William Topel's treatment at Providence became a rallying point for people who say patients should be allowed to try ivermectin, a medicine used to treat parasites in humans and worms in livestock that the FDA says should not be used for COVID-19.

Topel died early Wednesday, according to Michael Chambers, an Anchorage artist who described himself as a longtime friend. Topel, who had testified at numerous Anchorage Assembly meetings against pandemic precautions, was hospitalized late last week after contracting the virus.

Some time late last week, Anchorage Assembly member Jamie Allard was given advance directive powers over Topel, allowing the Assembly member to make unilateral healthcare decisions regarding Topel's care. For days, Allard and her supporters have been relentlessly harassing nurses, doctors, and hospital administrators, compromising their ability to provide medical care for other patients.

On October 9th, a small group including Terrence Shanigan, who serves as the legislative affairs director for Mayor Dave Bronson, was repeatedly turned away while attempting to gain entry to the hospital. The group claimed that they were attempting to visit "a friend," who is presumed to be Topel. The group was then caught by security attempting to sneak into a back door.

Russ Dizdar, who has been one of the major "Satanic Ritual Abuse" pushers in the Christian conspiracy realm for decades, died this weekend of COVID.

Dizdar's death is shortly preceded by his friend Rob Skiba, who died of Covid on Friday. Skiba, who started feeling poorly after attending a Christian conspiracy conference, was a flat-Earther and anti-vaccine proponent.

Evander Kane of the San Jose Sharks has been suspended 21 games for violating NHL COVID-19 protocol.

A wave of misinformation touting the deworming drug ivermectin as a COVID treatment appears to be showing no signs of abating, with calls about the drug to poison control centers surging, and officials in New Mexico saying misuse of the medication contributed to at least two deaths.

Courtney Temple, M.D., from the Oregon Health and Science University in Portland and colleagues describe the calls received by the Oregon Poison Center regarding ivermectin exposure in August 2021.

The researchers note that there were 21 calls in August 2021; 11 of the callers were reported to have used ivermectin to prevent COVID-19 and 10 used it to treat symptoms of COVID-19. Three people had received prescriptions from physicians or veterinarians; 17 had purchased veterinary formulations.

Six of the 21 persons were hospitalized for toxic effects from ivermectin use; all 6 reported preventive use, including the three who had obtained the drug by prescription. Four received care in an intensive care unit. Symptoms were gastrointestinal distress in four persons, confusion in three, ataxia and weakness in two, hypotension in two, and seizures in one. Of the persons who were not admitted to a hospital, most had gastrointestinal distress, dizziness, confusion, vision symptoms, or rash.

These cases illustrate the potential toxic effects of ivermectin, including severe episodes of confusion, ataxia, seizures, and hypotension, and the increasing frequency of inappropriate use. There is no evidence to support the use of ivermectin to treat or prevent COVID-19, and improper use, as well as the possible occurrence of medication interactions, may result in serious side effects requiring hospitalization.
