Actually, by Metron's words, I'm not certain it offered any protection at all.

If the explosion burst the bubble, you may have a point. But Metron claims the Source refused to protect him.

This implies the Source entity removed the bubble.

It was meant to cage him. Not protect him.

What did he say there? The car impact made them separate. They were COMBINED INTO ONE BEING and Anti M wanted to combine them again but the impact of the car weakened them.
