I worked for a company who's upper management came right out and claimed no action was to be taken against thieves, this "Let shoplifters go and fire employees who try and stop them" narrative the right is peddling is nothing new.
Employers have always been pragmatic about shoplifting. They don't want the bad press, and they don't want to risk lawsuits if an employee is hurt. Employees on the other hand can be fired and replaced, and nobody cares, no press or publicity issues.
Ironically this means an employee would be better off quitting their job and just taking what they need. 😂
