I lived in California for a decade. A 5 is nothing to be worried about. You usually cannot even feel them until they get above a 4.

In 1999, while in the Army, I was at Ft. Irwin, CA in the Mojave Desert and caught the aftershocks of a 5 point something quake. It lasted about 20 seconds, IIRC.

Scared the living shit out of me.

But the worst one for me was the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake, 7-something. That shit f*cked shit up.
