It's really quite simple: Things of the flesh are not of the spirit and things of the spirit are not of the flesh. To a Christian, especially, there is a constant battle between the spirit and flesh. People who don't believe in God have already given in fully to things of the flesh and abandoned spiritual things or perhaps even never cared about them in the first place so there is little to no conflict there for them.

Guess you're right. I believe Hitler was actually a spiritual person though he didn't actually believe in God. In fact he hated Christianity, in particular.

For example, belief in any afterlife. It doesn't have to be heaven or hell, it could simply just be that one thinks ones consciousness does not end upon the death of their body.

There are also religions with multiple deities and I wouldn't say they can't be spiritual.
