Think of bars, malls, and other businesses that provide private security for you. Typically the customer wouldn't pay for this.
You mention guns, but you could also get security cameras, insurance, attack dogs, etc.
Private security doesn't only mean personally hiring your own security force.

I think you mean illegal immigrants, which makes it harder for immigrants who go through legitimate channels and provide the country they're entering with value as opposed to destroying the economy.
The virus isn't deadly, but the vaccines and lockdowns are. So I would say anyone who employs a cure worse than the illness would be at the very least incompetent.
