Smother an infant or abort a fetus, it amounts to the same outcome. So why isn't it ok to smother an infant in the crib if you couldn't get an abortion?

An example of this is ceaușescu's Romania, where he outlawed abortion which resulted in half a million kids or so ending up in state ran nurseries. The outcomes for these children were horrendous.
