Those Ukrainians in distress could really use an AR rifle or two right about now.

I agree with Imp. If Ukraine had even a fraction of civilian gun ownership of the US or Switzerland, it'd still be in deep shit, but at least they would have a fighting chance.

Ukraine military is drafting everyone aged 18-60 and presumably training and arming them. why does grandma and the children need an ar-15 instead of Molotov cocktails?

Because guns are more reliable and safer than a crudely made jar of fuel that can rupture and burn to death the inexperienced user.

Because an AR-15 is an infinitely better weapon than a Molotov cocktail in 90% of situations.

Civvies suck. Real protection of freedoms is joining the military and fighting for them. The U.S. and Ukraine need actual trained populations, like in Switzerland, not rednecks who love guns cuz they're cool, like in the U.S. Mandatory conscription is needed with extensive rifle training, not shmucks with "muh secund amendmants"

The solution was better preparedness for just this situation. Military should have stockpiled far far more rifles than it needs. enough to arm the populace. but locked away, miles away from any schools and shopping malls and lunatic ammosexuals

*edit* If you're drafted in the u.s. you'll get a weapon. even if they draft 18-60, i would hope that our military has an appropriate stockpile. am i alone in this?
