In short: George Zimmerman racially profiled a 17yo named Trayvon Martin who was walking home, called 911 claiming he suspected" he was a thief, cos he's Black, the police were called and the 911 operator told Zimmerman to not confront the person. Zimmerman got out of his car anyways and started chasing him, a fist fight ensued at some point, Zimmerman got his ass kicked and pulled out his gun in anger and murdered the kid.
Zimmerman got off due to the law that you don't have to flee and can use deadly force in a confrontation, even though he's the one that started the fight in the first place and his victim was unarmed. For years after he trolled the parents of the kid he killed. Zimmerman became a hero/icon to the Rightist ammophiles.

Right, but you could tell how shocked they were that it was really happening, even as it was happening. They thought that their presence alone would make pence do what they wanted, and when he didn't... They had the most confused unfocused, unplanned insurrection ever.
This was after months of trump fanning the flames, and calling them to action.
All the arrests and jail sentences will scare off your average conservative from trying to do this again.

The protest was planned- but I don't think the fighting the police and killing people thing was planned at all. Maybe by the proud boys and such, but not by the average attendee. Mob mentality got the best of them eventually, but they didn't know what to do once they broke in. Way easier for them to tell "hang Mike pence" than actually have any intention of doing so is what I'm saying. A lot of peaceful people went to that protest because trump told them to. They won't show up for him like that in a protest against his arrest. The vast majority of right wingers really do great and respect law and order. Protesting Congress was easier for them.
